not everything can be found in a book. books are generally at the end of the information cycle and the percentage of whether or not there’s a book on a particular topic or person drops significantly if related to marginalized people. questions to ask yourself when doing research: what’s missing? whose stories aren’t being told? how do people collect counterstories? who collects them? who is deciding what information is valued enough to be in print? || the information cycle 🔄: THE EVENT ➡️ day of: social media/internet, tv, radio ➡️ week of: newspapers & news media ➡️ weeks after: government info (speeches, press releases), magazines ➡️ 6 months to 1 year after: scholarly journals ➡️ 1 year or more after: tertiary works (encyclopedias), government reports, books. #whatlibrarianslooklike #whatlibrariansdo
